Nutritional Counselling

Although some well meaning souls would like to simplify “healthy eating” into a low fat, 5 fruit and vegetables a day diet, our experience has categorically proved that is far too narrow and restricted an approach for optimal performance and health. To achieve the right fat loss / muscle gain results and to promote everything from longevity and increased vitality, to better skin and sounder sleep it is crucially important to have a scientifically sound nutritional  counselling programme that takes into account the individual’s unique lifestyle, genetics, and hormonal factors. It is the failure to address these variables with any specificity that has lead to the frustrations and health problems of literally millions of supposedly “healthy eaters”. Not that we should be surprised however – did you know that the average GP, who is of course paid to come out with well meaning general advice, spends less than 5 days studying nutrition throughout their entire medical career? Or that the key board members of the supposedly impartial British Food Standards Agency are almost all backed by major pharmaceutical companies with a vested interest in maintaining the status quo?

Here are a few reasons why you may benefit from nutritional counselling, a service that we provide as standard for all our ongoing personal training clients:

The general advice on healthy eating just isn’t working. People consume fewer calories than ever before and yet the western world is gripped in an ever increasing obesity epidemic that leads to diabetes, heart attacks and early death. All calories are not created equal, and the sooner people understand this the healthier and leaner the population will be.

Men produce 25% less testosterone than their grandfathers did at their age, and a frightening number of men in even their late 2os are starting to show symptoms of the dreaded “man boobs” – why? Because the water we drink, the food we eat, and even the plastic bottles we drink from all “leak” estrogens into our bodies. There are only two remedies to this – the most attractive and appealing one is to relocate to a fairly remote tropical island where the water is from an unpolluted spring and the animals are grass fed; the most practical solution is to educate yourself about the best ways to eat for both your mind and body, and to utilise intelligent, scientifically validated nutritional supplementation to augment what is now missing from our modern diets.

We see female clients who diet like crazy and have “two body syndrome” – lean upper bodies and a chubby lower half. Or increasingly we see women coming in with more typical male body fat distribution, with a disproportionate amount of weight carried around their midriffs. They are dieting (and stressing) themselves fat, and only via smart nutrition can we reset their metabolisms and undo the damage caused by misguided advice and / or the stresses of city life.
